MORE ABOUT THE GIRL BEHIND THE LENS...
So now that we’re on a first-name basis (I’m Katharine... not Birdies), here’s the scoop.
I grew up in Darien, Connecticut, and made my way to Saint Anselm College up in New Hampshire, where I graduated in 2019 with a degree in Communications and minors in Psychology and Graphic Design... aka I’ve always had a thing for stories, people, and making things look just right.
After college, I jumped into the corporate world, working for a major general contractor running all things marketing, events, and social media. It was a great job… just not my job. I’m a creative at heart, and I knew I needed something with more soul. So I started a little design business on the side, making logos and content for small businesses and that’s when the fun started!
When it came time to plan my own wedding, I designed everything... invites, menus, coasters, favors, you name it. And somewhere between obsessing over fonts and ordering custom signage, I realized this was the stuff that lit me up. Since then, I’ve created all the branding for By Birdies myself, and I still run the socials too. Keeping it personal and true to me? That part’s non-negotiable.
I learned to ski at two, started racing at six, and then spent the next 16 years as an alpine racer. These days, I’m fully retired (washed up, if we’re being honest), happily a wife and a fur mama to two. When I’m not behind the camera, I’m probably rearranging furniture, repainting a room, or knee-deep in a house project with a paintbrush in one hand and Pinterest in the other.
I’m a homebody through and through. I love the cold and live for rainy days. If I’m traveling, we’re probably in Vermont, my home away from home (and where all that ski racing started). My husband and I love our house built in 1857 so when we're not working on the house, you’ll find us in the mountains: hiking, swimming, skiing (bet you didn’t see that coming), or out on the water. Outdoorsy, cozy, low-key... that’s our kind of vibe. We’re not big itinerary people (unless I designed it).
And honestly? That chill energy shows up in how I shoot, too. I’m not here for the stiff, perfectly-posed stuff. I’m here for the real-deal feelings... the happy tears, the shaky hands, the wild dance floor energy, the deep breaths before walking down the aisle. I want you to look back at your photos and be like wait, I can literally feel that moment again. That’s the goal. Full body butterflies, every time.
